Wind Energy Is The Low Cost Renewable Resource

Earth is a mixture of many gases called air. It is important for leading normal life. Every living organism from plants, animals to human beings need air to breathe. Without air, life would not be possible on earth. The natural air movement due to cooling and heating effects of the earth is called the wind. Rotation of the earth plays an important part in changing the wind direction and its temperature. This movement of the wind is used to produce Wind energy. Wind energy is the power produced to generate electricity by constructing wind mills in large stretches of land or farms which are connected to the power network. The blowing wind is captured and is used for power generation. It is the cheapest way of producing electricity since air is easily available everywhere. It is cost effective and less polluting compared to other power sources like combustion of fossil fuels.

Wind Energy Over Fossil Fuels

Using fossil fuels to produce electricity is very dangerous as it emits substantial amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and the technique is costly as well. The technique of wind energy is the cheapest way of producing energy with no air pollutants. Fossil fuel is limited in reserves and is said to get completely exhausted in the next 60 years. They also have the disadvantage of being transported to the site for further processing. It mostly depends on oil and water. Wind is always available to produce wind energy and it can be used where it is produced and need not be transported. It does not use oil or water thus saving the planet on water consumption.

Wind Farm

Wind farms are bare lands or agricultural lands which are constructed with wind mills to produce wind energy to generate electricity. They occupy very less land and hence are cost effective. The large farm which produces nearly 594 gigawatts-hours of energy annually is the wolfe island shoals. It is in Ontario and commercially started its operation in 2009. The power produced from the Wolfe Island is sold under a 20-year renewable energy supply contract with the Ontario Power Authority. It is operated by the Canadian Hydro Developers.
